why do i suddenly have NO appetite?
I’ve been going through this cycle where I go from having a normal appetite and being at a perfect weight, to suddenly having no appetite at all and losing alot of weight (I’m talking about going from 135 lb. to 110 lb. in just a couple of months.) This has been on on-going cycle, and i’m not sure if i have some kind of disease or what it is…

The other symptoms besides loss of appetite include diarrhea (mainly in the morning & before bed), stomach pain, gas, nausea, irritability, weakness, feeling as if it is difficult for me to breathe, feeling like i have to pee when there isn’t anymore left to come out, feeling shaky and light-headed sometimes, headaches sometimes, etc…
its almost hard to even explain completely how i feel right now.

please, has anyone had these symptoms or know what may be causing this? thanks

NO APPETITE and NAUSEA please help!?
I haven’t had an appetite for about 6 days now and been nauseated for about 5 days. I’m also experiencing diarrhea I can’t eat because most of the time just thinking about food makes me nauseous. I went to the doctor and he prescribed me Ondansetron, which inhibits nausea. I woke up this morning feeling nauseous once again took the medicine and threw up for the first time. The doctor suggested that this could be caused by stress or depression because I told him that i was extra emotional lately….PLEASE help me if you have any suggestions of what it might be, or just how to handle these symptoms!!! Female, 21

Answer by ironmender doyle
Go to a different doctor if you are not happy with first dianoiseis dont take any chances.

Answer by Robert Scott
You didn’t go into much detail, but is there anything going on right now in your personal life that is causing you this stress or depression? If so, maybe try to do what you can to eliminate whatever is causing you this stress. Was your Dr able to offer any ideas? Maybe talk to a councelor or a friend to see if you can get things figured out.

Answer by nannyf2
It sounds like you may have picked up a virus, or you cant be pregnant can you? You should go back to the Dr and ask him for a blood test.

Chest pains, loss of appetite, nausea?

Chest pains, loss of appetite, nausea?
About a month ago I ate out at an expensive chinese place. After quite a large meal, I threw up a little. Since then, my appetite has been diminishing. More recently, due to anxiety related to college admissions and grades, my appetite had worsened. I could barely look at food and would feel nauseated if i tried to eat food. Also, since i wasnt really eating anything there wasnt much of a a bowel movement and i use to feel constipated. To then add to all the uneasiness, I started getting (for the past 5 days) these chest pains (as if someone was pressing down on my chest). These pains move to the back and then the stomach and then back again to my chest. I get instant reliefe from the pains when i burp but then the pains just come back soon after. I have lost a lot of weight- around 5 Kg. Nowadays, as soon as i get up i feel nauseated and throw up either bile, or my breakfast. After that, i suffer from the very uncomfortable chest pains thru the day. i only get complete reliefe ..
contd.. when i sleep only to wake up again and feel nauseated. My bowel movement has improved but the nausea and chest pains continue and are perhaps contributing to the bad appetite.
I have met 3 doctors, one a general consultant who told me to get a number to tests done since he didnt know what i was suffering from… then an endocronologist since i also have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and i thought that maybe my hormones had something to do with my condition. But the endocronologist was of the opinion that my PCOS could not trigger any of the things i feel. The third doctor felt it was just stress.. he did a general physical examination and then told me to get a blood test to see the condition of my liver. the test showed that there was nothing wrong. This third doctor is a cardiologist and a gastro-something-logist and he figured that the pains and nausea is due to acidity and stress. he told me to take pantocid DSR. Its only been a day since i have started with that

contd.. and i felt better.. but today morning, it was the same damn thing … i threw up my breakfast ! my parents think im crazy and thats why i am doing this to myself. i know some of it is in my mind.. but could it be something else? or does anyone go thru something similar? All help would be greatly appreciated

Andrew : Not constipated anymore since I have started eating a little more after trying to mentally over come nausea. Bowel movement is going back to normal. As for heart disease, the third doctor i went to was a cardiologist and he didnt think it could be heart related. The pain is on the right side of my chest, sometimes in the middle. No diarrhea, no fever/chills, no shortness of breathe … the pain isnt really affected by my meals.. but is does have an effect on my appetite..
As for being diabetic .. im not.. the doctors already ruled that out (not by a test, but after physical examination)

a camra down my throat? i dont think i would be able to do that… anyway.. As i said, its only been a day. the first day of medication really helped my chest pains. Lets see how today works out..

Answer by jad62
Even doctors have to do the right tests to make accurate “guesses”. You may have to return to “start” with this, and, your body’s gone through a lot which caused a lot of mental stress. Hopefully, you’re following dietary advice, etc. but it may take a while to resolve all this. Good Luck.

Answer by Dylan Lloyd
[askername], I know what your going through, losing weight can really be tuff. Seems like I tied a hundred different diets / programs and nothing was permanent, until I found The Diet Solution Program. I don’t know if it will be the right thing for you or not, but it sure was for me.

Good luck.

If you have a fever, it’s often a virus, if you have no fever it may be food poisoning.

Loss of Appetite & Nausea / Chills?

Loss of Appetite & Nausea / Chills?
Since last Saturday, I’ve experienced symptoms that I can’t pinpoint to a specific situation so I’m seeking insight. I had Nausea, Loss of Appetite (more towards Sun evening), difficulty sleeping, chills, and my face gets flushed warm on occasion. I went to the doctor on Monday and they thought I had gastritis (I have no pain or diarrhea, and have NOT vomited), so Prilosec did help alleviate some stomach cramps. However, I awake every 2 hours at night, but not in pain or to use the bathroom. I have not vomited, and was able to keep food down yesterday – although I haven’t eaten so much as a muffin today.

I go for a physical on Monday, but was wondering if anyone had insights on what this could be… all signs of what I”ve read lead to anxiety, but having obviously never dealt with that, I’m not sure what to look for in return. Thanks!

Answer by rob5279
You might have a liver or kidney problem due to some form of hepatitis.
Alternatively, it could be bird flu or west nile virus.
Or it could be a cold, a normal strain of flu, so you’ve got that going for you, which is nice.

Nausea, Loss of appetite, stomach aches, black stool, help!?

Nausea, Loss of appetite, stomach aches, black stool, help!?
Alright, for 5 days now I have had a loss of appetite, and mild stomach aches and nausea, one day out of the 5 in the middle I was able to eat a sandwich and potatoes and some other things through out the day. but 2 days after I’ve had almost a complete loss of appetite again, even though I can feel that I’m weak and sometimes slightly light headed because I haven’t eaten much, but I do eat soup and some small things. I know usually stomach viruses and flu’s go away after some days, but I have NO clue what this could possibly because I have never felt like this before I’ve always had a good appetite and I can’t tell if this is serious enough because I haven’t vomited nor had diarrhea only once during this week of sickness that I had small diarrhea, but these past other days just have been slight black stool and I barely had to go #2 I’m guessing since I haven’t eaten much. If anyone has any clue what this could be please leave your opinion. Thank you.

Answer by PortugueseGirl
you could be dehydrated? drink plenty of water and relax.
I kind of had the same thing a couple of weeks ago, if you continue to be sick by monday maybe it would be best if you went to the doctor.

Answer by rasberry vodka
Hi there….There is a possibility that you may have a small bleed in your tummy. Blood in the tummy causes nausea. Black stool is a sign of old blood . If it was red, I would suspect your intestines or polyps or hemorroids. But the black color shows that the blood has already been passed thru your gut. Your weakness/fatigue would be a sign of a low hemoglobin(red cells).. they carry oxygen around in your body. A tummy ache could come from a small ulcer. As for eating , it is a sign that there is something wrong….tummy says”no food. ‘I’m sick”.
This is a bad situation if you let it go. But it has an easy fix. The doctor will schedule you for an EGD. You will be asleep with IV medicine and they will put a tube, with a camera on it, down into your tummy and look around. While the tube is going down they will check the esophagus ( the part you swallow with) all the way down, with the camera. If they spot a “bleeder”, they will cauterize it then. If they run across a bigger problem they will deal with it thru the tube.

Sounds scarry? The medicine they give you is great.. you don’t remember anything and believe or not, you will actually swallow the camera tube yourself…plus when you go home you’ll sleep like a baby.

I am saying that this is a possibility…the signs seem to point to it but you need to go to your DR. or an ER, as this can become much worse. You need to get on this ASAP. Tell your Dr. that you need an emergency appointment because you think you may be bleeding from your stomach. JUST DO IT! Being scared of the diagnosis could mean your life. And if am not right about this, at least you’ll get an answer to your problem.

please help diagnose me… i am very ill and my stomach hurts, i have nausea, fever, no appetite, weak, etc…
hello. i’m a 22 year old male who has an unknown illness. this has been going on for 2 days. last week i had strong symtoms of irritable bowel syndrom (uncontrollable diarrhea) and lots of bloating. starting yesterday morning, my fever went as high as 104, i had diarrhea again (this time it was pretty much liquid, no stools) and i had to go every 10 to 15 minutes or so. today, my fever went down but now i have a strong case of liquid diarrhea, nausea (walking makes me wanna throw up, upset stomach, and i have no appetite to eat anything. i took advil yesterday which im guessing helped my fever and pepto bismo seems to not help my upset stomach (IBS). all my vitamins and minerals are flushing out and i’m weak typing this. can anyone please diagnose me? should i get checked in? i don’t feel that it’s a medical emergency just yet, but please advise me; it’s the worst i’ve felt in a long time, probably the worst. i’ve been laying down for 2 days and still feel just as bad. thank you!
another thing, im starving but my absent appetite makes me not want to eat. in fact, the smell of most foods makes me wanna throw up. i try to drink water which tastes really bitter to me right now but i’m doing my best to stay hydrated
mcp, im just seeking advice to see if what im going through is common. it doesnt feel serious enough for me to waste a few hundred bucks for a doctor to tell me something that someone on here knows. im far from ignorant, in this case, im being extremely vigilant on my matter. thanks to everyone else for providing tips :)
taylor, anorexic? no, im 185 pounds and 5’11. a lot of people envy my frame and ideal measurements, that can’t be it. not bragging, just setting u straight. at least u show some concern, thanks 4 the advice
wow excellent advice and possible diagnoses from everyone. thank u all so much! this is priceless!!!!!!!

Answer by mcp
why would you ask us to diagnose you? go see a doctor. you are sick and will probably get worse if you are not treated. You surely can not be that ignorant.

Answer by Marina
There is a NASTY stomach bug going around right now, and it sounds like you’ve come down with it. Keep taking the Advil to control your fever, Pepto to help your tummy, stay as hydrated as possible and try some dry toast only when your stomach feels settlled enough to eat it. This particular bug lasts anywhere from 2-7 days! Two of my friends have it right now, and a cousin of mine had it last week. I know it is absolutely terrible and I feel for you! If you’re not any in 24 hours, I would see a medial professional—you don’t want to dehydrate!

Answer by irishgirl
It sounds serious! Go to the emergency room and get some help!

Even if it is just the flu, you still need to get to a doctor. It could be a bacterial infection though so you need to go anyways.
Hope you feel better! : )

Answer by Taylor S
go to the ER you moron!! and from a glance it appears as though your anorexic but your not as it would appear. pepto is a laxative you idiot thats the cause up your diarrhea and why you can stop crapping! you should TRY and eat something that way you don’t faint. oh and get to the damn ER!!

Answer by luvahleyme003@sbcglobal.net
i would definitely recommend going to the hospital…. doesnt sound like youre getting any better.

go to this website to check your symptoms…they’ll ask more specific questions and provide a better answer than i can:

Answer by victimofheartx3
i had something similar this past summer – but i was actual vomiting to the point that i had nothing left to throw up and was dry-heaving. it sounds to me like the stomach flu. you need fluids. once you’re over the sickness, you’ll still feel bad if you’re dehydrated. try taking dramamine. that’s what my mom gave me. antihistamines are supposed to stop vomiting, which will help you hold down fluids. have soup if you can handle it – the smell might make you nauseated, but it could help your stomach. what i did was this:

got pretty much naked because of the fever, and laid with my head up in case i felt the need to vomit. put a cold wet washcloth on my forehead and kept a bag of ice on my stomach. i was drifting in and out of consciousness because i was so weak. i had a towel under me, because eventually i couldn’t make it to the bathroom in time. (i know that sounds really gross) took one dramamine. it made me sleepy. had bottled water nearby and drank a lot of it after the dramamine. laid on my side with arm stretched over to the other edge of the bed. slept as much as possible. stomach started to cramp eventually, so i had my mom microwave some heating pad thing we have (a towel would work too i’m guessing) and i put that on my stomach. taking baths is a bad idea. i puked every time i got out.

i mean, i was so sick that even watching tv made me wanna puke. but within probably 3 days i was better, aside from being dehydrated. now i was stupid there. you know those big evian bottles? i drank four of them. too much. i also had chicken strips that day. eventually puked it all up, but once i was done with that, i was fine.

i’d say it’s not a medical emergency. if it lasts more than two more days, call your doctor. and keep your fever down. that’s really high. if you start feeling any worse at all, you might want to get checked out. i could be completely wrong about the stomach flu diagnosis. i’m not a doctor, obviously. hope you feel better soon dude.

Answer by MellyG
You really need to be seen by a Gastroenterologist. I have had some of these same symptoms and it is miserable! The thing that concerns me is the fever. You need to have blood test to make sure that you do not have inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s Disease). I experienced the symptoms that you spoke for over two weeks! I have lost 10 pounds! Eating and drinking is difficult but you have to. So, try adding a little bit of lemon juice to your water it does help as long as it is cold. Try drinking a few sips at a time. The only thing that I could handle eating is chicken noodle soup so maybe you can try this. When I finally got an appointment with my Gastroenterologist I was put on a medication called Bentyl which helped control the stomach spasm that I have. In addition, I was scheduled to take a breath test which detected that I have bacterial overgrowth in my intestine. (SIBO) This condition is known to cause the symptoms that I was experiences. I am also Lactose and Fructose intolerant which also complicates the problem. Nevertheless, I was given an antibiotic and protobiotics that I will need to take for the next couple of months to help with this problem. This could be what you are also experiences but the only way to know for sure is to have your symptoms properly evaluated.

Answer by lorijean23
Have you been on antibiotics or in a hospital lately? If you have google C. Difficile. It is a superbug usually caused by a nosocomial (hospital aquired) infection, or the use of antibiotics.

Answer by pam-i-am
Wow, sounds like you have the stomach flu bad! (which would include the intestine part too). You are feeling weak due to the fever – be sure to take some tylenol or ibuprofin for that. And to keep yourself out of the emergency room – get as much fluid back into your body as you can to keep from being deydrated. Eat jello (they have it pre-made in stores), sprite, water, some crackers maybe. Even if you throw them up – get fluids!

This is likely a virus and will pass in another day or two. Call a doctor if it doesn’t.

please help diagnose me… i am very ill and my stomach hurts, i have nausea, fever, no appetite, weak, etc…

nausea, headache, loss of appetite?
For the last two days, i’ve had diarrhea, nausea, and a loss of appetite.
And today, my head has been hurting extremely bad. My head feels pretty warm too. I think this may be due to some under cooked food. What can i do to help myself feel better and prevent dehydration?

Answer by Tumblingchick89
actually i felt like this for the past few days…. i sorta forced myself to eat… I wasn’t hungry and felt sick when i ate but i made myself eat and drink and today and yesterday i have felt better!!! at least force yourself to drink water… get some rest…. you may be stressed i think that is what caused me to feel sick like that… but idk hope this helps…

Answer by Helios
a little food poisoning? It would be fun to try out some “bitters” on you. This was often used in the past for this complaint – the “bitters” are sometimes made of grapefruit seeds. You put a few drops in a glass and put in water and swig it down.

It really works too! – so ask somebody if they have any of this stuff – or if you can go to a health food store, see if you buy a little bottle of it. 10 or 15 drops of this stuff does work wonders.

Then curl up somewhere and take little sips of water until you get lots to drink.
