What could cause severe nausea, burning, and then sharp pain in my stomach and left side?

What could cause severe nausea, burning, and then sharp pain in my stomach and left side?
I’m a 25-year-old female, and a few weeks ago, I started having severe nausea (accompanied by chills) about an hour or so after eating, and if I could stand not taking antacids, my stomach would burn. It didn’t feel like heartburn, as it just stayed below my rib cage. It didn’t matter what I ate…it happened all the time. I went to my gastro doc, and he said it was likely my gallbladder, and he put me on aciphex to curb the symptoms. I had an upper abdominal ultrasound, and everything looked fine, much to my surprise. Since then, I have been calling his office about a game plan going forward, and they have said they’re waiting on labs from my internist…for ALMOST 2 WEEKS!

Well, now I have this random sharp pain right below my rib cage in the center, and when I push on it, I feel a sharp pain below my ribs on the back left side. It doesn’t last a long time, but long enough! I had dull flank pain on the left side a few days ago, and was worried about a UTI, but my urine has been fine.

As a background, last year, I had frequent diarrhea for about 8 months, and those symptoms don’t come into play when I have my newest illness. They never were able to diagnose my earlier symptoms from last year. After all this, I’ve dropped 25 lbs. in the past 14 months, bringing my to an almost unhealthy 110.

Can anyone provide insight? I know better than to seek medical advice online alone, but I just don’t want to panic before the doctor calls me back. Plus, I’m SO tired of all this!!! Thanks in advance to anyone who responds!!

it does sound like gall bladder disease. find a new doc.

If not gallbladder, sounds like pancreatitis. Any alcohol consumption in your life before this started? Inflamed liver perhaps.

You might try going on a very strict diet of mostly veggies for a bit to discover if you can straighten out what sounds like a toxic issue. And no processed food. Need to cook stuff from scratch. H20 only for a bit.

And if you are really painfully motivated, give meat the boot in exchange for protein powder.

No alcohol of course. I’d say a week or two ought to get you going again.

What’s wrong with me? Left abdominal/groin pain…?
Accompanied with fever that comes in waves, slight nausea, diarrhea, and feeling tired. The pain was so sharp yesterday, I couldn’t move. Then it passed and it comes in waves as well. Any help would be appreciated..

Answer by Carlos
hmm…this may be appendicitis..but appendicitis is usually on the right side of ur abdomin. But some people have reported sharp pain on their left side and they had to get their appendix our of their system.Your symptoms sound like appendicitis.I don’t mean to scare you,but if it is appendicitis,I would go to the ER to make sure your appendix doesn’t rupture, because if it does rupture,it can be deadly.

Severe squeezing abdominal pain in upper left quadrant?

Severe squeezing abdominal pain in upper left quadrant?
A couple hours after eating dinner tonight, I had this severe squeezing pain which felt like a labor contraction in my upper left abdomen. It came and went 3 times. Now, it finally stopped. I felt nauseous, came pretty close to vomiting and had diarrhea. I have a low grade fever 95.8 which I have had for 5 days. I have not been feeling very well lately…nausea, vomiting, fatigue, etc., but this is the first time I have felt this excrutiating pain! Then it was followed by lower abdominal cramping. Has anyone had this experience and found out what was wrong with them???????
I have had nausea and vomiting for 2 weeks. I went to the ER and the doc pretty much was a jerk and acted like I was wasting his time. He said I probably had a virus. However, my fever is not going back to normal.
Also, can you have gallbladder pain on the left side under the rib cage even though gallbladder is on the right side?

Answer by Lola
sounds like severe gastritis. it could also be anxiety. are you under a lot of stress? your brain is connected to your gut in a powerful way, if you are feeling anxious it releases serotonin all over the place causing your symptoms. the same thing happened to me. also f.y.i having a 95 degree temperature does mean you have a fever… that’s actually kind of low. maybe you are coming down with a bug. go see a doctor asap.

Answer by Pisces_mom
Judging from what you’ve written above, it sounds like you are dealing with gallbladder pain, possibly from gallstones. This situation you are going through is serious enough to warrant a trip to the emergency room. You need an abdominal ultrasound and/or a CT scan. The pain will go away once the dr’s are able to pinpoint exactly what’s going on. Gallbladder pain does not get better without some form of medical treatment so from personal experience all I can add here is that you should get this handled ASAP to avoid any more complications (like surgery). Just go seek medical attention now…GOod luck.

EDIT: Sorry that the er doc was such a jerk. He doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing…if your pain persists, get to your own private doctor for follow up. Yes, you can have pain that radiates anywhere along the ribcage or back with gallstones and gallbladder problems. The key to getting it dx’d is thru an ultrasound or MRI.

Keep sipping water to avoid dehydration. See a doctor.

Answer by simplycuriousNC
Numbness is not normal. This is a sign of poor circulation among other possibilities. See a doctor.

Answer by FC
Go to a doctor immediately. My friend got numbness from waist up, backache etc and discovered it was liver cancer late stage. He passed away after 3 months.
He wasn’t a smoker or drinker.

Answer by Jean V
Don’t know how old u r. looks like you have a condition that requires immediate medical attention. Call 911 if the symptoms are dolloping faster. Probably you have venous thrombosis in your left leg complected by PT. Don’t delay seeing a doctor.

Answer by latebreakfast
You need to get to a doctor immediately. Diarrhea can kill you if you get too dehydrated. DRINK GATORADE.

Are you taking new medications that might affect you this way?
Do you have high BP?
Heart condition?
Liver disease?

The pink saliva could mean MS, but how will you know unless you go to the doctor?
I hope you feel better soon and all these symptoms are nothing serious. Just get to the doc!

Answer by dj_yennifer
Where abouts do you live? In the US or Canada? Because even if you have no medical insurance through work or blue cross, (This is in Canada) a trip to the hospital is free. Just as long as you have provincial health care. Which you should have acquired at birth or when you moved to the province. If you are not from this country but are residing here and have not acquired this information yet then a trip to the walk in clinic will likely scoots you $ 30.00. Which is a lot better then going through more pain and possible death.

Now, as per your symptoms, the pink saliva could be from blood in your saliva. But this is usually cause be gingivitis. It sounds to me, as though you may have a virus could possibly be the Norwalk virus. This virus gives you fevers, vomiting, upset stomach diarrhea, cold chills and could cause numbing. But the numbing should not persist for to long and should be intermittent. You should not experience numbing all the time nor should you have pink saliva. I recommend you get into a doctor as soon as possible. In the case that you are experiencing a strong taste of iron in you mouth, which is an indication of higher levels of blood in your saliva you must seek the emergency. In any case do not let this persist without seeking medical attention. The blood in the mouth and the numbing in your limbs are not normal by any means and demands medical attention. The rest of your symptom point to a virus. I hope this help you and your wife and I hope for your sake that you take my advice and see a doctor.

What is this pain in my left flank, just above my hip?

What is this pain in my left flank, just above my hip?
I’m looking for an answer from someone who is well versed in medical diagnoses or someone who has had the *exact* same symptoms.

I’ve seen answers to a question similar to mine that suggest gall stones. I don’t have a gall bladder and furthermore the gall bladder is in the right upper quad, not in the left flank.

Three days ago, I was playing a light game of badminton. Later that evening I started receiving a throbbing pain in my left flank, just above my hip. I wrote it off as a light muscle pain. One the following day, my symptoms were more pronounced. They gradually increased, and the throbbing pain became highly unbearable while straining for defecation, cough or sneeze. The pain radiated into my central lower abdomen, and occasionally my right flank will have a stabbing pain. Since yesterday evening, all over the lower abdomen from front to back, side to side, I am receiving throbbing to stabbing pains. My kidneys ache as though I am about to start my period. However, I have no other signs that I am about to menstruate.

Medical History: Hypoglycemia, IBS, Gall Stones (fixed), irregular periods, anemia.

Ibuprofen seems to take the pain away. I took four tablets yesterday (probably 800mg!) and felt no pain at all. I was able to eat without fear I might become nauseous. I have not felt nauseous at any point because of the pain. My urine is clear yet I have been urinating more frequently. There are times when I feel I might not make it to the bathroom. There is an uncomfortable sensation when I urinate, not much unlike the feeling of a UTI, but it is very mild. I have had that feeling for 2 says prior to the throbbing left flank.

I’m overweight so I can’t exactly feel any kind of mass in my lower abdomen. I have lost a significant amount of sleep and I am now experiencing a mild headache.

All pain has stayed within my lower abdomen; primarily in my left flank and central lower abdomen just underneath my navel. Occasionally I will feel a pain in my right flank. My lower back also throbs for extended periods of time. No nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or dehydration. Just pain and a little more than normal need to urinate with the weird UTI feeling (but not every time I pee, just most of the time). Please help! Please feel free to ask for more details.

It could be anything, nerve problem, muscle problem, kidneys or a number of other things…It is impossible to answer your question without knowing what the actual problem is. Ask your Doctor for a referral for a CT or MRI scan.
The wrong type of treatment or exercises can do more damage than good and you need to have your back properly diagnosed prior to ANY treatment.
Again you do need to have a CT / MRI scan or such done before allowing ANYONE to touch your back.

Get a professional opinion from the radiologist doing the scan in his report to your doctor and then go from there.

Are these symptoms related: nausea for the last 2 mons, explosive diarrhea & pain in lower left abdomen.?

Are these symptoms related: nausea for the last 2 mons, explosive diarrhea & pain in lower left abdomen.?
I am 5′ 3″ and overweight at 190 lbs. Doc states pain in abdomen is a hernia.

I have some food allergies: lactose, tomatoes- which give me diarreha–and kiwi & all pitted fruit cause my lips and tongue to swell.

Nausea is new… and a bother! Could these be a sign of gluten allergy? I’m not preggers, as hubby is fixed (12+ years ago)

lol (jk), so whenever you poop, there’s an explosion in the toliet!! BANG!!! Sorry, I shouldn’t be getting my pleasure from your pain. I’m sorry. :(

Yeah, I’d definitely say that they’re related they sound linked together. I’d go to the doctor before another diarrhea bomb goes off in your toliet.

Why am i so sick? pain in left chest, arm, diarrhea, constipation, nausea?
Hi. This month i found out my boyfriend cheated on me and lied to me for 2 years about it, and on top of that every time i tried to leave he threatens suicide. since it started i had chest pains on the left side, neck pain, pain in my left arm, elbow, forearem, fingers (all of these pains are similar to the feeling of imflammation). I know i have GERD, and i have been taking prilosec and now im on 40mg of protonix but it seems to not help. my doctor checked my stats and he said they were all good. total chol= 157, LDL =98, HDL=40, Blood Sugar =100, triglycerides=95 and a normal blood pressure and strong heart. What is wrong with me? could it just be stress? I’m 26 and a overweight no family history of Heart disease. BTW i had diarrhea twice this month and i am negative for H. pyhorli

Answer by Pog Ma Thoin
Leave him. If he threatens suicide, call 911 and tell them. He gets a ride to the hospital psych ward. You move out and if he later does it, it’s his problem. I would say good riddance.

So long as he’s not as goofy as the little bitch that killed McNair.

Left side abdominal pain with other symptoms?
I just recently got diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis (IC) and do not think that the symptoms I am experiencing are related to the IC. For three days, my bowl movements have been off track. Constipation as well as diarrhea. I also have a headache as well as light headedness, back and side pain, slight cramping, nausea, hot and cold flashes, fatigue, shortness of breath, dry mouth, and no appetite. What could it be?
Had a tubal in Jan so pregnancy isn’t an option.

Pain in lower left stomach, nausea, and diarrhea.?
On Monday, my sister was sick. She was throwing up, and has diarrhea.
On Wednesday night, I had become sick in the exact same way. She was only sick for one day though. I have been sick from Wednesday night to now (very early Sunday morning). Now I have terrible stomach pain in the lower left part of my stomach. I also haven’t been able to keep anything down at all. Not even water.

What could be wrong?
Is it serious?
Please don’t just tell me to see a doctor.
Only answer if you have a good idea of what I have.
