Sudden diarrhea, no other symptoms?
I had a sudden onset of diarrhea this afternoon. Other than that I feel fine, no fever, appetite is even ok, but two bouts of nausea followed by very watery stools, about an hour apart. I have no idea what caused this or what I should (or should not) do.

I did have some egg salad a few hours earlier that I got from the store yesterday. It is the prime suspect, as it may have smelt a little funny in retrospect, but it’s only a day old and I didn’t even eat that much of it. If it’s not the egg salad, I can’t figure what as I ate several things that I just bought yesterday but all of them tasted fine. Can I assume it’s ok to eat normally (sans the egg salad) once it’s been a few hours without diarrhea and I feel hungry enough? (I kind of do now)

Answer by Becky98433
For diarrhea, I’d use the BRAT diet….bananas, rice, apple’s (or applesauce), and toast. If you start getting extreme stomach pain (like a level 8 out of 10 pain), then I’d go to the emergency room. But remember, it is cold/flu season, so it could also simply be a virus. It isn’t necessarily food poisoning.

Cause for sudden nausea?
Suddenly I started feeling nausea during the night after feeling completely fine all day. The feeling didn’t let me sleep and I still felt sick in the morning. I don’t feel a stomach ache or have diarrhea, just the feeling of nausea. I know I’m not pregnant. so what could be the cause of this?

Answer by Miss Rhonda

Sudden bouts of vomiting,?

Sudden bouts of vomiting,?
Monday night I was feeling rather sick to my stomach and kind of dizzy, so I went to bed. Then around 1AM I woke up and felt sick, so I got up (only half conscious) and went into the bathroom, where I then threw up almost everything I had had to eat. I cleaned up, drank a glass of water and went back to bed. About 30 minutes later, I woke up again and threw up everything else that was in my stomach. My boyfriend then made me drink a glass of water and a glass of cranberry juice. Around another half hour later, I woke up and vomited again, this time only liquids. Drank water, went to sleep, repeat process every 20-60 minutes until around 9AM. I called in sick to class and stayed in bed all day. A friend brought over some Sprite and Saltines, and that is all I ate all day Tuesday. I still felt sick, but no vomiting. About an hour after I last vomited I had diarrhea a few times over an hour or so. I felt a little nauseous all day, but when I got up Wednesday morning I was fine and went in to class. I felt a little nauseous and dizzy while there, but it wasn’t really a problem. I felt fine all day today (Thursday) until around 10PM when I started to feel really sick again. I lounged around for a while not wanting to bother my roommates or anyone. Around 11:30 I went over to my boyfriend’s house to stay the night, thinking it was just food poisoning and I was now fine. Once I got to his house the feeling of nausea was just unbearable and I told him I needed to go home, so I did. About five minutes after I walked in m door, I threw up again (around midnight, which was about ten minutes ago now). I don’t know if I will throw up again in the near future like last time, but I wanted to post this now before I got too tired. And, TMI, I’m sure, but I have not gone #2 since Tuesday morning.

Does anyone know what this could be? I think it goes without saying that it’s gross and I’d like it to stop, with the big holiday weekend coming up and just general suckiness.

Also, for help in the possible food poisoning argument, everything I’ve eaten this week:
Monday:
A pear
A chicken quesadilla from my favorite local Mexican restaurant.
Some sliced Jack cheese.
A bowl of Kashi cereal.

Tuesday:
A slice of bread.
Cranberry juice
Saltines
Sprite

Wednesday:
Half a blueberry bagel w/ cream cheese
A chicken sandwich from Wendy’s
some veggies and dip (in a tray)
pretzels ans ranch dressing

Thursday (today):
sausage Mcmuffin
half a Subway sandwich
bowl of Cheerios

None of my roommates, my boyfriend, or friends have been sick. (my boyfriend has been sick, but it was something entirely different.) Going to the doctor really isn’t an option at this point. And I looked it up and I don’t think I’m pregnant, apparently diarrhea is not a corresponding symptom of that.

Someone please help me out here! I need this to stop!

Answer by Anama
jeesh! READ what you are putting into your poor, sore stomach. Have you not heard of resting it after a bout of gastritis?
Go on the bray diet (bananas, rice, applesuauce, yogurt) for 24 hours. drink nothing but herbal teas, gatorade, water, broth, applejuice, other clear liquids. Tuesday you were doing better with your diet, but please stop eating greasy, fatty things like mcsausages, dressing, and junk food and give your poor gut a break!

if this keeps up after going on soft, easily to digest foods for a day, then please go to your school clinic or to the doctor when you are home on holiday!

p.s. and imho… don’t do saltines, white breads, etc. Wheat grains are hard to digest at the best of times, and saltines are fat and white flour, horrid for your blood sugar and gut! Go with BRAY and eat whole, natural foods for now!

What could be the cause of the following SUDDEN symptoms in a 75 year old women please?

What could be the cause of the following SUDDEN symptoms in a 75 year old women please?
Nausea / Vomiting (vomited acidic content twice in 12 hours), total loss of appetite, temp of 38°C, extreme cold shivering, metallic taste in mouth, cramp down the left hand side of her body. I’m curious because, she has no diarrhea present which I think would eliminate the possibility of it being food poisoning.

Answer by tranquil
Seems like an electrolyte imbalance. Please bring her to the emergency room as soon as possible.

Sudden stomach pains and nausea……?

Sudden stomach pains and nausea……?
Yesterday I wasn’t feeling too good so I took two extra strenghth asprin becasue I had a headache and my throat was hurting. But then at night I had diarrhea(sorry I know it’s nasty) and a little pain in my lower stomach but I thought nothing of the stomach pain becasue I though it was my period coming but it turns out it wasn’t. Then this morining I woke up at around 6ish and my abdomen was hurting and I was feeling very nauseas. Since then I’ve thrown up 4 times and my stomach pains has gotten much worse. Ohter than the nausea and stomach pains I fell fine so what could be up? Im 16 by the way.
Sorry for all the mistakes. I was writing kind of fast.
The pains were sharp and they were all over my stomach area. But now it doesn’t hurt as much as it did before and it’s only on my lower stomach more so to the right. And I’m only a tiny bit nauseas. And I think I might of taken the asprin on an empty stomach but I’m not sure but would that explain the nausea and vommiting?

Answer by Candy Cane
If the pain moves to your lower right quadrant, it could potentially be appendicitis. You are showing all of the symptoms for it. Go to the doctor or emergency room to be evaluated. If it is indeed appendicitis, it will need to be removed before it ruptures, or else there will be many complications and a risk of infection.

Hey, my friend was off school for a week with the same, she went to the doctor, he said it was a bug and to drink plenty of water and rest, and take this thing called Dirolyte or something like that. It sounds like you have a bit of a bug, can you keep food down? So get as much fluid down you as you can take, rest and it should make you feel a little better. :) .

But like above it could be appendicitis, so go to hospital or something.

Hope you feel better soon.

xx =D

Answer by Dew
I would say it is the flu.I have 4 people at work who has this.Try some chicken ramen soup and 7-up or sprite if you have any.Lots of rest and don’t eat anything much, maybe some saltines and soup for now.

Answer by Yeah!
If you took the asprin on a empty stomcah and didn’t eat anything after you took it then it could of been the asprin.

Sudden onset of Nausea and Diarrhea?

Sudden onset of Nausea and Diarrhea?
My mom was fine all day today. We had burger king for lunch. (I had a whopper and she had a whopper jr.) Then we had scrambled eggs for dinner.

about an hour after we ate she said it wasn’t sitting right, and then she a couple things of diarrhea. Now she feels queasy and a bit nauseous. she hasn’t thrown up or anything, and she doesn’t have a fever… but she feels miserable.

She doesn’t want to go to the doctor cause she said there’s nothing they can do and she’ll just ride it out… but I wonder what it could be. It started literally out of nowhere… she felt really good all day… so would we be looking at a case of a stomach virus, or food poisoning? I’d like her to go to the doctor… especially if its food poisoning.

Answer by Albanianator
Pepto bismol would probably help.

Or give her a banana and fluids like gatoraide.

Answer by Aiyana
Well it could be food poisoning but I really think that it could be just food not agreeing with your mom. If the diarrhea and nauseousness continues, go see a doctor.

Sudden Nausea and Diarrhea-Just Nerves?

Sudden Nausea and Diarrhea-Just Nerves?
For the past few months my boyfriend has been getting sudden waves of nausea and diarrhea, but only when we are out somewhere. In August he had a fainting spell and went to the doctor and had blood work done. Everything checked out, the doctor said he must have just ingested something bad (which is very possible since we had sushi that night)

Anyway, about twice a month he gets sudden waves of diarrhea and nausea, like out of nowhere. He will be fine, then as soon as we get to our destination we turn around and leave. He also has allergies-I read that the nausea and diarrhea could have to do with a severe allergy?

My theory is that it’s just nerves/stress. He bottles everything up and I think that these symptoms are how his body handles it. ANy advice? His insurance is changing and can’t get back to the doctor before 2009, and we have several fucntions to attend this weekend….should he take Pepto before we go out??

What medical condition could cause ‘yawning’ and sudden diarrhea / nausea + temporary loss of appetite?

What medical condition could cause ‘yawning’ and sudden diarrhea / nausea + temporary loss of appetite?
Basically, I’m a 28 year old male who experiences this ‘odd’ set of symptoms approximately every 4-6 weeks. (…never day after day – which is strange). When it comes on, I feel a horrible ‘yawning’ sensation, not like the kind of yawning you get when you are tired – more like a ‘sigh’ yawn which makes my eyes water – I fell ‘starey’ and vacant, and feel like I want to lie down / go to bed immediately. Within an hour or so of doing this, I have chronic diarrhea and nausea + loss of appetite (the thought of food makes me want to vomit, at the time) + extreme anxiety. When the episode is over, everything returns to normal!, and I go back to normal again. i.e my appetite returns, the nausea / diarrhea stops, and I feel like eating anything and everything. I don’t take any medication on a daily basis that could contribute to this, but because of my extreme fear of nausea / vomiting during the attacks, I take Ondansetron 4mg (Zofran™), Prochlorperazine 3mg (Buccastem™) Diazepam 5mg (Valium™) as soon as an ‘attack’ comes on. I’m convinced the ‘YAWNING’ beforehand has some relevance to why this is happening to me. (…just like a Migraine victim gets an ‘aura’.)

Answer by Homer Simpson
That started happening to me, at 63 and the doctor said “it’s NORMAL, you’re getting old”

maybe you should go to the doctors and get checked out
